RN-Emergency Dept PRN

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse uses the nursing process to identify patient needs and priorities of care through assessment, planning and delegation of care based on patient needs, therapeutic interventions, and evaluation of the patient’s response. The nurse is expected to incorporate and demonstrate the message of CHI’s stated mission, including its Christian ethics, philosophy and values.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides basic, bedside care.
  • Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
  • Performs triage, collects current symptoms, records patients’ current vital signs, as well as a detailed patient history.
  • Works directly under physician’s direction and/or policies/procedures.
  • Prepares and administers and records prescribed medications.
  • Provides Patient/Family Education.
  • Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
  • Maintains proper supply levels and appropriate medical equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Qualifications

    Training and Experience: Graduation from an accredited school or college of nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing is preferred. Specific services/positions may have additional education, training or experience requirements. Must have attended a pre-licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the life span as part of the curriculum or have had a minimum of 400 hours of experience as a RN (or LPN) at another facility.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of nursing. Requires skill and accuracy in use of medical equipment and medications. Requires ability to perform a variety of tasks characterized by changes, in caring for patients. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Requires ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.

    Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications: Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in state(s) of practice. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications (ACLS, PALS, TNCC, etc).
